Kiahuna Plantation is Kauai’s largest condominium resort and Poipu’s only beachfront property. While Kiahuna is recognized for its white sand beachfront location, it is even better known for its lush landscaping and gardens. Throughout the 333 unit project are a mix of one and two bedroom accommodations in garden view to beachfront locations. Kiahuna Plantation rests on 35 acres of the most verdant and beautiful grounds on the Garden Isle.

Located in the heart of Poipu Beach, Kiahuna Plantation provides easy access to ocean sports, golf at the Kiahuna Golf Club, tennis at Kiahuna Tennis Club, shopping and dining on or off site.

Place Name History Of Kiahuna Plantation Resort

To the east of Hale-o-i'a Beach fronting the Kiahuna Plantation Resort is a point where there once stood a heiau, or ancient Hawaiian Temple. The name of it was Kihahouna which was dedicated to Hulukoki (the super-natural bird god), Kuhaimoana and Kamohoali'i (the ancestral shark gods who were also brothers to the Fire Goddess, Pele), and last but not least, Kane, one of the four major gods whose primordial role in the creation mythology was of utmost importance to the Hawaiian people.

Kihahouna Heiau was a walled temple 130 feet by 90 feet with a seawall. It was terraced toward the south and toward the west. The name "Kihahouna" represents the gathering of the four major gods and of the life that they breathe into this very special place. History also indicates that it was Kiha-ke-oho-lupalupa (Kiha with the luxuriant hair), the second chief of Koloa, who had this temple built.

Kiahuna is a name of recent origin that is derived from the name Kihahouna, one of the many heiau that presided in the ahupua'a and moku of Koloa. We can literally translate the name "Kiahuna" to mean, "the key to a hidden place or secret".
